Categories of presentations and abstract submission requirements

RESEARCH REPORTS 

Presentations of original scientific data collected by the author(s). Any established research procedure may be used (clinical trials, descriptive studies, single-subject designs, qualitative methods etc.).

Presentations may be made in either of the following formats:

Platform presentations - 15 minute oral presentations to a seated audience. For the majority of presentations, a question period will be held at the end of a series of presentations. Presenters are to be available for the discussion/question period.

Poster presentations - Reports in which information is summarised using brief written statements and graphic materials such as photographs, charts, graphs and diagrams mounted on a poster board measuring 1 metre wide by 2 metres high (39 x 78 inches). Posters will be on display during the Conference. Presenters will be assigned a specific date and time when they must be at their poster to discuss it with participants.

Abstracts for both platform and poster reports must be written in English and include the following information. Please include all sub-headings in the following sequence:

PURPOSE: What was the major reason for doing this study or for formulating a hypothesis?

RELEVANCE: How does this study relate to the practice of physical therapy?

SUBJECTS: Describe the number and relevant characteristics of subjects.

METHODS AND MATERIALS: What techniques were used to collect the data? What materials were included with the methodology?

ANALYSES: Describe the type(s) of statistical analyses used to assist you in interpreting your data.

RESULTS: Briefly summarise the data derived from your analyses.

CONCLUSIONS: What can you logically conclude through the analyses of your data?

SPECIAL INTEREST REPORTS

Presentations of a new or unique programme, method or theory developed by the author(s) OR description of innovative ways in which established methods have been adapted to meet the special needs of physical therapy practice. Reports of projects concerned with organisation, regulation or management of physical therapy services will also be considered in this category.

Special interest presentations may be made in either platform or poster formats as described for research reports.

Abstracts for both platform and poster special interest reports must be written in English and include the following information. Please include all sub-headings in the in the sequence shown below.

PURPOSE: What were the major reasons for developing the new or adapted programme, method or theory presented?

RELEVANCE: How is this project related to the practice of physical therapy?

DESCRIPTION: What methods, materials and principles did the project involve and how have these been developed and used?

OBSERVATIONS: What reactions and responses have you encountered when the programme, method or theory has been put to use?

CONCLUSIONS: What is the significance of this work for physical therapy and what are your suggestions for future work related to this project?
