Pre-conference Tour 1 – Tropical North Queensland & Central Australia

Thursday September 22nd , 2005
Arrive Cairns Airport and transfer to accommodation at Paradise on the Beach Resort, Palm Cove. This beach side resort is set idyllically with a golden sand and palm fringed beach at your doorstep.
Friday September 23rd
Tour of Great Barrier Reef . Meet in reception for the coach connection to the jetty where you'll board the boat. Travel to the outer reef and snorkel and swim amongst the fish and coral. Late afternoon return.
Saturday September 24th
A full day tour to Kuranda, travelling by train up the McAlister Range , through 15 tunnels and past the Barron Falls . Enjoy time at the Kuranda markets, aboriginal dancers, koala and wildlife park and the Skyrail Cablecar.

Sunday September 25th
Take a morning flight to Alice Springs in Central Australia . Upon arrival depart for an afternoon tour of Standley Chasm and Simpsons Gap, clefts in the imposing MacDonnell Ranges to the west. The tour concludes at Anzac Hill where panoramic views of Alice Springs are afforded.
Monday September 26th
An early rise for the transfer by road to Uluru (Ayers Rock). Located some 450 kilometres from Alice Springs , the world's greatest monolith rises 348 metres above the desert floor. Arrive early afternoon at campsite and after lunch visit The Olgas, a cluster of massive rounded rocks. Take a walk through the ‘Valley of the Winds' before the spectacular sunset viewing of Uluru. Dinner around the campfire and camping accommodation under the stars conclude the day's program.

Tuesday September 27th
Another early rise for sunrise climb of Ayers Rock followed by tour of the base caves. The 1.6 kilometre climb is not for the unfit and is quite strenuous. As it follows an important religious track, the traditional owners prefer that visitors take other discovery walks. Late morning transfer to airport for flight to Melbourne . Arrive early evening and transfer to accommodation.
Cost: $1287 pp (twin or double share) or $1551 pp (single supplement).
Includes: Tour of Great Barrier Reef, five nights accommodation (motel and camping), tour to Kuranda, tour of Ayers Rock, The Olgas and Stanley Chasm, all breakfasts, lunches (not day 5) and dinner (day 5), transfers, gst.
The above package assumes delegates would fly into Cairns before the first day. We would arrange accommodation at Palm Cove, on the northern beaches 20 minutes from Cairns . The cost does not include air-fares from Cairns to Alice Springs or Ayers Rock to Melbourne . |

Sunday September 25th
Enjoy a morning city sights tour of Sydney , taking in the historic Rocks area, the exclusive inner suburbs of Paddington and Double Bay , noted for their quaintly preserved terrace houses, famous Bondi Beach and the red light district of Kings Cross. A highlight of the day will be the harbour lunch cruise where you'll be introduced to its intriguing history, character and points of interest. |

Monday September 26th
Another full day tour to the west of Sydney that encompasses the unsurpassed wilderness, beauty and remote bushland of the Blue Mountains plus panoramic views of rugged cliffs and deep forested valleys. There's also a visit included to the Featherdale Wildlife Park plus private time to walk through pristine bushland, lush ferns and temperate forests.
Tuesday September 27th
A full days tour that takes in the stunning coastal scenery south of Sydney , native australian bush, wild dolphins at play and the spectacular Fitzroy Falls. Cruise the pristine waters of Jervis Bay for the opportunity to observe playful pods of wild dolphins. Take evening flight to Melbourne.
Cost: $ 924 pp, (twin or double share).

Post-conference Tour – Great Ocean Road/Grampians/Ballarat

Monday October 3rd , 2005
Depart Melbourne at 8am and travel to the west through Geelong , the state's second largest city. Not long past Geelong the ocean comes into view and at Anglesea view the kangaroos that frequent the golf course. Continue onto Lorne where the dual mix of the ocean and the Otway Ranges is breathtaking. Lunch would be taken at Lavers Hill and before the drive through to the rainforest at Melba Gully then to the Shipwreck Coast . The afternoon would feature the coastal rock formations of Loch Ard Gorge, 12 Apostles and The Arch before arriving in Warrnambool. |

Tuesday October 4th
After breakfast travel across to Tower Hill, an extinct volcano and now a State Park. A walk through the park reveals koalas in generous numbers in the gum trees. Late morning continue through to Dunkeld where lunch will be enjoyed at the stylish Royal Mail Hotel. After lunch, a visit would be made to Crombie Homestead where our hosts, Rex & Gay Beveridge will provide an insight into life on the land. A shearing demonstration with a sheep dog roundup would precede a garden walk and afternoon tea. Late afternoon transfer through to Halls Gap, the major town at the heart of the breathtaking Grampians mountain range.

Wednesday October 5th
Depart Halls Gap and travel through the Grampians taking in some of the most spectacular scenery the state has to offer. Included in these are The Balconies, Mt Difficult Lookout and The Jaws of Death before transferring through to Ballarat and Sovereign Hill. After the welcome some free time would be available to explore the park. Sovereign Hill is a recreation of Ballarat's first ten years following the discovery of gold there in 1851. Adjourn to the Charlie Napier Hotel for dinner before experiencing the sound and light show, 'Blood on the Southern Cross'. The show brilliantly recreates the events that lead to Australia 's only civil war, the Eureka Stockade on Sunday December 3 rd 1854 . On the return to Melbourne divert to the airport for anyone with a late flight.

Take the scenic route out to the beautiful Yarra Valley . With its rolling hills and ever increasing fields of vines, the region has re-established itself as one of the country's premium producers of cool climate wines. Travel through to the Healesville Sanctuary, home to more than 200 species of native animals set amidst natural bush. A guided tour of this first class facility would be provided before the transferring across to the De Bortoli Winery & Restaurant at Dixons Creek. Adjourn to their award winning restaurant which is perched on a high point of the property, overlooking the vines. Following lunch, a tasting of their wide selection of wines would be provided before the return to Melbourne .

Our Golden Heritage
Thursday September 29th
Travel to the west where much of Melbourne 's early wealth was derived, from the goldfields at Ballarat. The journey would be broken with a farm visit to Lal Lal Estate. This family owned property of 5000 acres runs sheep and cattle and a genuine warm country welcome is extended. Morning tea will be followed by a garden walk, shearing demo and sheep dog roundup. Travel then across to Sovereign Hill, the recreated gold mining township of the 1850's.

City Sights Friday September 30th
Discover why Melbourne is known for its old world charm, beautiful gardens and its historic Victorian buildings. In the city see the Old Treasury, Federation Square and colourful Queen Victoria Market and in nearby Carlton the iron laced works of the terraced houses. Travel past Parliament House, St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne Cricket Ground, the National Tennis Centre and Shrine of Remembrance before stopping at the Royal Botanic Gardens. Continue on through the quaint inner city suburbs of South Melbourne and Port Melbourne. The tour concludes with panoramic views of Melbourne from the Rialto Towers Observation Deck.

Penguins Friday September 30th
Enjoy the antics of the world's smallest penguins at fascinating Phillip Island . The sight of Australia 's largest fairy penguin colony emerging from the surf and waddling up the beach with food for their young brings howls of delight from an enthralled crowd. A visit would also be made to the Koala Conservation Centre.

To Market to Market Saturday October 1st
Gain an insight into Melbourne , its early history, multiculturalism and its love of food on this morning tour of the historical Queen Victoria Market. Dating back to 1878 and spread over some seven hectares, the market is home to nearly 1000 traders and has received National Trust classification. Enjoy a guided tour of this outstanding attraction.
